You will gain plenty of experience on the job and will gain skills that will be sought after by future employers. Another way to start your career is by going to college and taking a course in painting and decorating. This will allow you to gain the qualifications and skills necessary to become a painter and decorator. However the only issue with this way is you may be lacking experience that employers are looking for. Depending on whether or not you may be placed in work whilst at college for a work experience scheme.
